Sept/Oct. 2009 COC, “European Amber Lagers"

Post by Guerra »

The September/October 2009 COC, “European Amber Lagers” will be open to BJCP Category 3. European Amber Lagers, including 3A. Vienna Lager, and 3B. Oktoberfest/Marzen.

Only one (1) 10-14 oz. green or brown bottles are required for each entry. If you are the winner (2-3) additional bottles will be required for the AHA Club-Only Competition. No swing tops allowed. Printed crown caps must be blacked-out with a permanent marker and all labels removed to assure anonymity of all entries. Each entry should use a AHA/BJCP Bottle ID form: http://www.bjcp.org/docs/SCP_BottleID.pdf

Entries are due Friday September 25th by 1pm at Homebrew Headquarters. Each member may enter up to 3 entries per COC, however only 1 entry per sub-category (no double entries).

As always, I am looking for Judges and Stewarts, so if you want some judging practice please contact me.

I can help judge, if it is done on Saturday afternoon, before the club party. BJCP Class 5 is being held on Sunday September 27.

Donnie,

Thanks for the offer. I sure need the help.

I am not sure if we will shoot for judging the COCs, Sat 9/26 or the following weekend 10/3-10/4. It depends upon the availability of the "other judges". FYI, "other judges" have not been identified yet.

What is your availability 10/3 or 10/4??

I'm not available 9/27 or 10/4. 10/3 is okay. If possible, let's do it tomorrow 9/26.

Donnie,

So far I have two individuals who have committed to judge, Sat 10/3 at 2pm. Are you available then?

Yes sir. Saturday 10/3 it is. It would have been a treat to begin tomorrow's festivities early. Tell everyone to calibrate their tastebuds!

Big O. I've got a hockey game that evening also. I want to judge. If we can be done before 5:00 it would be great. If we need to move the time up an hour or so to do that, please let's do that. Thanks, Don.

Yes it is Club Only Competition. We compete in the AHA COCs, see web site: http://www.beertown.org/homebrewing/club_only/

So what we do is have a local COC, then our Club's winner is eligible to enter the winning entry into the National COC competition. We also use the COC to determine who will be the NTHBA Brewer Royal. That is why you will often see me refer to this competition as the COC/BR.

Guys, the beers were excellent. I'd like to say that we were very critical in our judging. Don't let the scores fool you. The beers were excellent. Congratulations on your wins.

Thanks Donnie. I'm certainly sandwiched between some great brewers, and proud to be there.

Bill, sorry you ran out of beer for the national event. Maybe I'll get lucky and fool some judges, thus bringing additional respect to the NTHBA!
