Mash Tun capacity calculator

Post by kingsbrew »

Have you ever wondered how much grain you can mash in your mash tun. This link contains several calculators but one called "Can I Mash It?". Very cool for those of us who cannot remember(or know) the formula.

Thats pretty cool to have all three on one page. It's too bad it isn't in a printable format.... I don't keep my computer in my brewing area.

This is a cool site. I'm portable so the equations will be in my brewery. The house is off the market for the time being so I'm brewing again!!!

The mash volume calculator looks accurate. Mash in temperature looks accurate. Mash step is always inaccurate. I've found that with all of them. I used to use Suds, and now use BeerSmith. They are pretty much the same, and both inaccurate. It usually takes about 30-50% more boiling water to reach my step temperature, and it depends on the total mash volume to heat up. There is another site with some good calculators. http://www.brewerslair.com/index.php?p= ... alculators I really like the hops age alpha acid calculator. It's all guesswork on when the hops were harvested, and how they were stored before you acquired them though, but you can dial in to the correct IBU level for your brew.
