Forum Changes and Improvement Suggestions

Going through the top-level sections and sub-forums, I have a few thoughts:
  • Under Brewing questions, there is a BJCP Class Discussion sub-forum. Maybe create a top-level section for Judging/BJCP Topics? Could be under Competitions section also?
  • Is there a way to turn off the HTML formatting? "
    • " does not work by the way or I do not know how to use it. Needs user-friendly text formatting instead of HTML tags. It's 2022, not 2002.
    • Change Brewing Questions sub-forum to Brewing Topics, then create sub-forums for Brewing, Equipment, Yeast, Hops, others? I'm equating this to Brewing Bad Ass Beer on the BRBC Slack channel.
    • Get rid of Archived Competition Info under Competitions.
    • There is Main Discussion Board section and Recipe Swap section. Just curious as to why this is and should they be merged under Main?
    • I realize Forum software is a technology that has been around for a while. It is also one that may not be familiar with newer users who know tools like Teams or Slack. Absent more user friendly formatting and usability, how to we provide some guide for usage? For example, posting images, the HTML tags thing, replying, quoting.
    If I think of any other things, I will post here.

  • Can attachment size limit be increased? Is this how you upload an image?

  • The members of this forum needs to be purged at some point. I would also like for it to be limited to club members only. What is the benefit of club membership if there isn't restricted access?

How big an attachment do you need? I don't think we want to forum to become a place to share files. It is currently set to 256kbytes. I was able to attach a photograph with a test post.

Organization of the sections will come. We need to figure out what we want. We might want to spend some time at the club meeting to discuss.

I will clean out the users, first I'll delete all the users with zero posts.

I would say depends on how much space we have on the server. Space is not a major factor these days especially with a club that has 50 members and maybe half of them will participate in this. Why can't it be a place to share pics and files? Should there be a file size limit? Sure, but it should be in the megabyte range, not kilobytes. It needs to be a more flexible collaboration and information sharing tool. Sharing files and pics is important for that. My $.02 anyway...

Our server does have a finite amount of disk/storage space. If anyone hits the limit, let me know and we will work the issue then. It could be we need to add storage and that is doable.

I want to set up a gallery on the WordPress site, so that is where the pictures should go.
