Franconia Explosion

Post by JHarrington »

Our wished and thoughts are with Dennis and all at Franconia.

(McKinney, TX) – A Saturday afternoon explosion at Texas-based Franconia Brewing injured two people.

Per WFAA, “The blast propelled a cylinder through a wall, injuring the two people. One was airlifted by helicopter ambulance to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas for treatment; the other went by ground ambulance to Medical Center of Plano. Their names and conditions were not available.”

People at the scene said on Twitter that many people were at the brewery taking tours around the time of the accident and it is fortunate that more people weren’t injured from the explosion.

This was bad, but could have been much worse. They had a tour of about 100 people there, and most of them were in the cold room when the fermenter blew. Someone took a picture of the bulging fermenter just a few minutes before it blew. I read that the person that was airlifted to Parkland, was treated and released in good condition.

McKINNEY - A fermentor ruptured under pressure and was blown through an interior wall yesterday at Franconia Brewing, injuring several people.

Two visitors were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred minutes after the regular Saturday tour concluded, with about 100 visitors still on-site. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
