BIG50 system Batch #2
I'm starting a new thread so we can discuss ideas etc for the next run on the 50 gallon system.
Batch #1 worked out great. I'll be upgrading to a false bottom on the mash tun.
BATCH #2
Idea for brew - Parti-gyle batch. For those who do not know, in its simplest terms, parti-gyle gives you two beers from one batch of grain. The first batch is typically a no-sparge high gravity beer, though you can do a small amount of sparge if you want. The second is a weaker beer using the rest of the sparge runnings, often called a small beer. To do the whole process, you need to be ready with two boiling kettles, and two separate fermenters. (or in our case a multitute of small fermenters)
We can do two beers. We would run off either half or a third of the total volume into the boil kettle, Add our sparge water and then run the sparge runnings back to the HLT to do the boil for the second batch.
Wayne.

Whatever style is decided - I'd commit to 5-10 gallons. -Andrew Speer

I would also be willing to take 5 or 10 gallons.

So are you figureing 20 gallons of first runnings and 50 gallons of second?
I am in for 5-10.
maybe we should consider something that would leave us with seconds that would give us a kolsch or pils or light american hybrid?

How about the Fullers parti-gyle. Fullers makes ESB, London Pride, Golden Pride and Chiswick Bitter with runnings from one mash. Here is a link to an article about Fullers:

Re: BIG50 system Batch #2
All great ideas. I am ok with any style split.
Should we do a quick poll?
I ordered material to make a false bottom and will want to test the mash tun before we do the next batch so if anyone is interested in brewing with me we can do 10-15 gallons to test the mash tun.

I'm in...
Beer contains just a small amount of vitamins - that's why it's necessary to drink lot of it
Re: BIG50 system Batch #2
Depending when you schedule the brew I would be down.

I talked about it but have not decided yet.
I still need to cut the false bottom and run a test brew on it before we do a full batch on it.

Jason,
I'm still trying to make time to do the false bottom. I'm going to go to the brew day but bringing Big50 is not going to happen this month.

False bottom cut. Need to add a handle and drill a hole
Re: BIG50 system Batch #2
Looks good. Let me know when you decide to do the test batch and I'll try to make it.
