Flat tasting carbonated beer...

This is a place where people can ask questions about brewing. Hopefully, someone who is more knowledgable about brewing will respond.

Flat tasting carbonated beer...

Post by Ziggy_Zeigler »

Hi

I am an extract brewer that brewed my first lager. After weeks in the fermenter and stable FG readings, it has been keged and pressurized for another couple of weeks. The head on the pour is very nice and it stands up for a while. There are nice carbonation bubbles rising from the bottom of the pint. The issue is that when it hits the tongue, it "tastes" flat. Like there is no carbonation. It is a St. Arnold Summer Pils clone, so I anticipated a bit of carbonation bite.... Does the description make sense?

I am not sure what would contribute to that...can one of your smart folks give me some ideas?

Thanks - Ziggy

What temp is the keg stored at and what PSI are you using?

Thanks for responding. The temp is around 40 degrees, and I started with 12 PSI, but I have gradually been moving it up to see if I could influence the flat characteristic. It is currently at 18 PSI.

Thanks - Ziggy
