Jimmy's Imperial Porter

Post by Jimmy Orkin »

Rob asked me for the recipe for the Imperial Porter I had at the Christmas Party. Here it is:

OG: 1.075
FG: 1.026
IBU: 47
SRM: 43
ABV: 6.5%

Water:
Calcium: 50.20 ppm
Sulfate: 98.41 ppm
Magnesium: 9.49 ppm
Chloride: 91.72 ppm
Sodium: 33.17 ppm

Malt
67.2% Pale US 2 row
9.4% Munich 9 SRM
8.0% Crystal 40
6.2% Brown Malt
5.5% Chocolate Malt
3.7% Black Patent

Mash 150F for 1 hour
Mash Out

Hops
42IBUs East Kent Goldings 60min
5IBUs Fuggles 15min

Boil 1 hour.
Add Whirlflock 15 minutes before boil end.

Yeast
London Ale Yeast WLP013

Ferment at 67F degrees

Let me know if you brew it. I would like to try your version.

Thanks so much Jimmy, really enjoyed it at the party.... looking forward to brewing it...

you say to put the whirfloc in for 60 mins... I've always done 15... have I been doing it wrong?
Beer contains just a small amount of vitamins - that's why it's necessary to drink lot of it

Rob,

I meant to say add whirlflock according to your normal schedule. I put it in at 15 minutes also. I'll edit the original post to clarify.
