Historic beer... Any recipe that brewers used before refrigeration or before the wide availability of hops... I.e. not modern beers.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We will be bringing the club kegerator to the Burning Beer event. This means that we have twelve spots available to put beers on tap. Though it is not required, it would be nice to fill these up with your beers made from historical recipes. Can we get a list of volunteers to bring beer and fill up the kegerator? You can bring Ball lock or Pin lock kegs.

Brew Often,

Could use another person for the site setup / planning. I've made some progress on the property. I have a working water spigot near the camp area, and will be putting a second 20 amp breaker and plug on the pole to provide more power for lighting.

The road will be going in over the next few days and I'll work with Orlando to get the pit designed and ready to be assembled on site.

Wayne,

I heard there is a burn ban up there on your land. Do we know the specifics to this ban? Are we allowed to have a fire pit to cook on? Will we be able to have a fire to sit by and tell ghost stories?

Hello,

The burn ban information for the county is here:
http://www.co.collin.tx.us/fire_marshal/burn_ban.jsp

It went into effect July 30th and runs for 90 days.
I don't know if they will extend the burn ban. I'm sure they will announce any extension on the collin county website:

We can NOT have a bonfire of any size or any uncovered or uncontrolled (open) burning during an active burn ban.
This does NOT prevent common sense uses of an "open" flame. The whole intent here is to non burn down 1000s of acres of land. We can have a fire that is contained in a "grill" or "pit" that is 10 feet or more away from combustible materials (grass etc)

As per the website:

<Begin quote>
Can I cook outdoors during a burn ban?

Many Collin County residents have expressed concerned about how a burn ban affects their plans to cook outdoors. The answer is, “yes.” The Collin County Fire Marshal’s Office urges all residents to use common sense when cooking outdoors during a burn ban. Here are a few guidelines to follow for outdoor cooking in order to keep you safe:
Gas grills are the safest outdoor cooking option. Please keep the flames covered during the operation of your gas grill;
If you want to use a charcoal or wood-burning grill, it must be placed on a concrete, gravel or dirt surface well away (10 feet) from any combustible materials. Please keep the cover on the grill during use;
Keep a screen on top of all fires to reduce the potential for escaping embers;
Smokers can be used if they are placed on a concrete, gravel, or dirt surface well away (10 feet) from combustible materials. Keep the flames covered during use;
Never leave a hot grill unattended.
<end quote>

I will get the particulars for event insurance. No burn permit should be necessary as long as we do not have an open burn on the premises.

The pit will be as per Orlando's design decision. See his emails or email him for the grill design.

Update: The club kegerator will not be at Burning Beer. Please bring your kegs with picnic taps and some way to keep the beer cold.

I will be doing a batch of Bochet (burnt / camalized) mead at the event.

I will be starting it later in the day on Saturday for those who are interested in watching and or helping with the process.
