New BJCP Exam Format

Post by egens »

Looks like the new BJCP exam format goes live at the beginning of next month. That's way sooner than I thought it would.

Find out what that means for you here:

For right now, the number of exams slots remains unchanged. Here's to hoping they are able to increase them sooner rather than latter.

If you have not yet taken the old exam you will need to wait until you can register for a Judging Exam before taking the online test. There is a requirement to take the Judging Exam within one year after you have taken and passed the online exam.

Apprentice judges need to take some action or they will have to start over after two years April 1, 2014

1. Active Apprentice judges with essay scores less than 60% on the BJCP Legacy Beer
Examination must first pass the web-based BJCP Beer Judge Entrance Examination.

2. Active Apprentice judges with essay scores of at least 60% on the BJCP Legacy Beer
Examination do not have to take the web-based BJCP Beer Judge Entrance Examination.
Their passing written exam score is regarded as equivalent to passing the entrance exam. Their
score on the BJCP Beer Judging Examination determines their maximum attainable judging
rank.

"National judges and any judges who score 80 or higher on any tasting exam and have 10 judging experience points may register for the BJCP Beer Judge Written Proficiency Exam, which allows judges to advance to National and higher ranks. This new written exam will have 20 true-false questions and five essay questions that must be answered in 90 minutes. The new exams will be weighted 50/50 in determining an overall score for rank purposes.

New rules exist for current judges, so check the implementation guide carefully. Note that no current judges will have their ranks adjusted automatically, although current Apprentice judges have two years to become Recognized judges or have their judging status revoked. "
