BJCP Class 8 - November 22, 12:30 PM

Post by donniestyle »

Hi everyone.

The next BJCP class will be held at my house at 12:30 PM on November 22. The address is 15549 Buffalo Creek Dr, Frisco, TX 75035.
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... 75035&z=17.

Class 8 will be the Doctored Beer session. I received the kit earlier than expected, and we have to use it before it expires. There are 24 flavors in the kit, and it is enough for 20 persons. Please RSVP for this class; I would like to invite others if we are less then 20. Here's a link to the kit description http://www.bjcp.org/cep/kits.php. I will purchase the "beer selected for light, neutral characteristics." There are 24 flavors requiring 1 liter of beer each. That's 3 cases of beer. I promise it will be light, neutral, and as inexpensive as possible. Please bring along some cash to help pay for the swill.

We've been accelerating the class schedule. During the last class, we decided the remaining class dates. Here they are.

* November 22, Doctored Beer Session
* December 13, Mini BJCP Exam, India Pale Ale http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style14.php, Strong Ale http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style19.php
* January 3, Mini BJCP Exam, Belgian and French Ale http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style16.php, Sour Ale http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style17.php
* January 17, Mini BJCP Exam, Belgian Strong Ale http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style18.php, Smoke-Flavored/Wood Aged Beer http://www.bjcp.org/2008styles/style22.php

The mini BJCP exams are geared to help you get familiar with the exam and budgeting your time. They will consist of 3-4 questions, and 1-2 beers. They will be timed, in the same format as the BJCP exam. We had 2 already, one consisting of 3 questions and 1 beer to judge in 45 minutes. We went over the quiz afterward.

Additionally, we hope to meet up with the Fort Worth clubs for a beer tasting session before the February 6 exam. We will have to coordinate a date.

There was also some interest in holding a full practice exam. We are not committed to this. It may occur the weekend before the scheduled exam. If you are interested, let me know.

There is still time to catch up if you had missed some classes. At last count there are 8 Fort Worth examinees and about 10 from our area. The BJCP enacted a new rule, where there is a examinee limit of 20. See this link for more information http://www.bjcp.org/examschproc.php. If you want to take or retake the exam, you should try to make the remaining classes. The BJCP Exam Fee schedule is also explained in the link above. Note that retakes can be the written or tasting portion of the exam only. This is a great way to boost your rank.

See you on November 22.
