Re: Jimmy's Imperial Porter
Rob,
I meant to say add whirlflock according to your normal schedule. I put it in at 15 minutes also. I'll edit the original post to clarify.

Re: Christmas Party Beer
Rack your beer off the yeast before transporting your beer. I just transferred my Porter and Barrett beer from old kegs into clean kegs to leave the yeast behind. Damon Lewis has shamed me into the practice and it is a good one.

Re: Christmas Party Beer
I have three candidate beers. Tell me what you want me to bring:
1. Jimmy's Dort. A Dortmunder.
2. Barrett's multi-yeast brew. Mine was WLP-830 German Lager Yeast.
3. Jimmy's Imperial Porter. Between a Brown and Robust Porter and bigger than both.

Re: Student interested in homebrewing
On the question: Why do you think others are not home brewing? (What keeps people from not crafting their own brew?) I think there are so many good craft breweries and beers available now, you do not have to homebrew to get many of the beer styles that were out of reach 3 years ago. I think meads an...

Re: Propane Pilot light
My pilots are propane torch heads. I removed the pressure reducer from inside the torch heads. I have to turn my 20 lb regulator to 20 lbs to get enough pressure to get a good flame. I do get a pretty blue cone torch flame. I do not have any issue with the pilots going out while opening or closing t...

Interesting. Lost Rhino is walking distance from my boss's office in Virginia. I have been to their taproom. Very good beers.

Re: Water conditioning/additions?
Yes. Use RO or distilled water to dilute or your city water or for all your brewing water.
363 PPM of Sodium seems very high to me. I think the decimal point may be in the wrong place.

Re: Water conditioning/additions?
There is a lab that can perform the tests for you.
www.wardlab.com
I used them a few years ago. The prices have gone up since the last time I used them. I think you could get away with the W-6 test although they do offer a brewers test suite.
