Re: Friday at Bluebonnet
what's the hospitality suite for? The hospitality suite is a room where they serve "commercial beer" and folks socialize between activities. FYI, it has not been discussed yet, but in past years, we can only bring/drink homebrew during the room crawl and awards ceremony. On more than one ...

Re: Stir Plates and Flasks
Scott, I disagree with your statements, that flask bottoms need to be flat. I have two flasks 2l & 5l and they are both are slightly convex, they do not have perfectly flat bottoms. Stir bars will rotate on convex surfaces. I have a very big lab grade plate, with some effort I can get it to spin...

Re: Need help cutting top of keg to convert to brewkettle
Todd, I have gotten very good at cutting keg tops. I use a 4.5 inch grinder freehand, with very good results. No need for a stinking jig. The trick to cutting freehand, is to draw your cut lines as concentric circles. You cut to the first line and grind to the second. PM me and we can disucss. Orlando

Re: Bluebonnet Log-in
Larry, The log in takes place at “Hog Heaven”, which is Richard Dobson’s ranch. When you take the turn-off 35, you will leave civilization and take a dirt road deep into the woods… Richard is a wonderful host. This will be my forth year attending. I have a great experience every time I go. We will s...

"Looser Beer" is distributed at the Awards Ceremony, Sat. night. Makes a fun game of Homebrew Russian Roulette, because the only markings on the bottles are the entry numbers.ssage21 wrote:what happens to the bottles that don't make it to the 2nd or 3rd rounds?

Re: Bluebonnet drop off
Guys, Keep in mind that HBHQ or WMTS is not the final destination for your entries. Your entries will be picked up from the stores, by fellow homebrewers. Loaded into the back of someone’s pick-up and hauled to the Bluebonnet Log-In location, near the OK boarder. So even if you drop your entries off...

Re: Alamo City Cerveza Fest! Big Announcment!
A Rumor of the change was announced on Saturday and confirmation just came yesterday. They just updated their website yesterday. My first response to this was basicly WTF? I don't know the reasons behind the change and since the Lone Star Circuit has no rules in place to prevent changes like this h...

Re: Expectations for a brew day...
Ziggy, Absolutely, I am an experienced AG brewer. What I enjoy most is watching how other people brew and the equipmnet they use. Then I go home and copy the good tech & ideas. Since you have been doing extracts you know how to boil, add hops etc... What you need to show up early to the brew day...

Noticed a little bit of cloudiness in the water (Is this normal?). Cameron, are you adding your salts into your HLT? If so you may be leaving some of your salts behind. I was adding salts to my HLT, and was noticing that after the end of the brew day, I found some salts still in the bottom and the ...

Re: 2010 COC May ’10 Extract Beers
what is the definition of this category? The May 2010, “Extract Beers” covers all BJCP categories (1-23), in which 50% or more of the fermentable are made from extract. Entries MUST specify the beer style, Category and Sub-Category. [/b] So yes this would include: "hybrids ie.. grain pre boil ...

I was curious if anyone on this board has ever tried a sour mash. If so, with what success and how did the beer come out? How did you do it and did you run into any issues? I have made: Flying Fish Brewery – Farmhouse Summer Ale. See BYO Replicator recipe at: http://www.byo.com/component/resource/a...
