Slotted serving spoon is mine. I'm surprised that Bill forgot his enlarger!

Re: November Brewday

Racked mine to secondary yesterday. Bubbling was very slow and the beer was still pretty turbid. Gravity was about 1.014. Had a bit of funkiness to it so I think the American farmhouse blend left its mark.

Re: reading the hydrometer

A related problem I have had with post-fermentation hydrometer readings is the formation of bubbles on the hydrometer itself. Even though the beer isn't carbonated it still has a lot of CO2 in solution from fermentation. I can actually watch the hydrometer slowly rise as the bubbles form. I have fou...

Re: November Brewday

Racked it off the debris first. I probably got 3 to 3.5 gallons. I pitched a blend of yeasts - they were recently expired ones donated by Brian, plus I pitched some of the yeast cake from an American stout that I kegged over the weekend. American farmhouse, American ale blend, and two types of witbi...

Re: November Brewday

Rob - I accidently wound up with your funnel from the brewday. I can bring it to the X-Mas party or would be happy to get it to you sooner if you need it.

Re: November Brewday

What's the ETA for wort collection? The OSU-TT game was inconveniently scheduled for 11:00 a.m. I was thinking about watching the first half and showing up after lunch.

Re: New member

Welcome to the ever-growing Carrollton faction of NTHBA. We have a lot of active members in the area, and our Christmas party will be just down the road from you near the SW corner of Kelly & Keller Springs. I actually used to live just across Kelly from your area but moved a few miles north a c...

Re: carbonation question

Was the beer very cold when you initially opened it? If so it will hold a lot more CO2 in solution. The combination of agitation and, as Bill said, sudden warming as it is poured into a glass will cause a lot of CO2 to instantly come out of solution.

Re: what is beer gas vs co2

From Wikipedia: In modern beer dispensing, a metal keg is pressurised with carbon dioxide (CO2) gas or nitrogen (N2) gas or a combination of both. Pressure in the keg drives the beer to the dispensing tap, or faucet. Pressurised CO2 in the keg's headspace maintains carbonation in the beer. The CO2 p...

Re: Introduction, BJCP Question, and 4/30 Brewday Question

We do run a May-May schedule for dues, but we will not charge you for 2010 dues at this point (unless our treasurer is in an unusually grouchy mood, in which case just give him a Fullers London Porter). Sign up now and you will be good through May 2012.
