Re: AHA 2011 Regional Judging

Woa, a drive by posting! Why anonymous? OK Daddy, what makes you think that we don't know what we're doing. Do you really think that we don't know what else is required to judge beers. While I don't have 10 years under my belt, I will be fulfillng roles to make sure this gets done in both the Bluebo...

Re: Oak chips/cubes

I will add that cubes have a fixed surface area that delivers consistant repeatable results. I've steamed them and also soaked in brandy before. The soaked cubes definately inparted a flavor other than oak to the beer. The steamed cubes just oak flavor. I've used medium toast French Oak (steamed) in...

Re: AHA 2011 Regional Judging

That's a lot of suport from 6 hours away. I only wish our Texas clubs were as supportive instead of the negatives we're hearing.

With that much support from Oklahoma and 2 other Texas clubs on board, I see this as a very achievable propsition.

Let's do it.

Re: AHA 2011 Regional Judging

I say "Man-up", we can do this. If you don't like judging beer, why the heck did you train to be a beer judge? We have more BJCP ranked judges in our area than most and we're training more at the moment that this would provide great experience and points for these new guys. This would give...

Sage, please understand that you are not the only one and I fully apreciate you stepping up accepting responsibility. Well done Sir! I would argue that you do indeed have what it takes as a brewer to compete. It's just the planning that we need to work on. There are others who have contacted me abou...

Re: Using Raw Wheat

Bill, I've only used raw wheat in the flaked and tortified forms. Both are good for head retention and bready flavors. You should understand that significant amounts will make your beer cloudy though. Think Witbeer. Tortified is easy to mill and the flaked doesn't need milling. If you're dead set on...

Re: grain questions

Dave, I really don't know if it would work or not. Just give it a try with a hand full of grain and see. You want the grain crushed and the husk intact. If it does that it should work.

Re: NHC 2nd Round shipping

OK guys, I misread the instructions and thought they were due next Monday instead of a week from Monday. Wayne has dropped his off and Kelly shipped them today. I got mine there this evening and Kelly is holding the box to put your entries in . I've sent him E-mail and will call him tomorrow to have...

Re: Call for Judges! CELTIC 5/22

Those who tested for the BJCP Certification this past Feb, why did you test if you aren't going to use your skills? This is a chance to put what you've learned to use for it's intended purpose.
