Re: Source for Fermwrap like Heater

It is called Flexwatt Heat Tape. Looks like the minimum order is for 50 feet. http://www.reptilebasics.com/11-flexwatt-heat-tape.html I just bought a Fermwrap. I paid over $40 for it. Seems you would make one for less than 1/2 of the cost. BTW it appears that the Flexwatt Heat Tape is sold by the f...

Re: Any tips for moving with beer?

Also, will it damage my kegs if beer freezes in them? How much would the beer expand? Would I want to put 3 gallons of beer in a keg to be safe, or would 4 work? Thanks! I have frozen beer in a keg a few times by accident, and once on purpose. You just let them fully defrost. I experienced no perce...

Re: Secondary?

I never use a secondary. I have left the beer on the primary yeast cake for up to a month before kegging. I did have reasonable temperature control the whole time. Normally I leave beer in the primary for two weeks for an ale. I perform a diacetyl rest for the last couple of days at the end. For la...

Don't forget to "peel" the skins off the pumpkins after roasting, before placing into the mash. The pumpkin skin will really stick the mash.

Re: Brew stand

I've noticed a lot of rust and peeling paint on various systems. Unless you use Stainless in your stand construction, you will always have problems with peeling paint and rust. Frankly, stainless steel, paint or special coatings do not help you make better beer. IMHO save your money and spend it on...

Re: We Got Our Butts Kicked

Bill can you count? NTHBA garnered the most points at the 2010 Limbo with 28 Points. So I would not say: "We got our butts kicked." We won the event, but it was like a bad Cowboy Game. We will take the "W" but it was not pretty. We still held our own. But we did not dominate as w...

Re: Hermes Recirc Manifold Design

Jim, I use the SABCO Brew Magic http://www.brew-magic.com/bmindex.html recirc manifold because of its simplicity. It is a piece of coiled hose that sits on top of the grain bed. No special whirly-ma-jigs or copper manifolds with hundred of holes in it, just a simple length of high temp hose. Temp ra...

Re: CO2 Tank refill

The places I go to all exchange. Garland Welding has filled my tanks when they did not have any available for exchange. For exchanges in Plano go to Mr. G's. (Coit & 15th). I have never bought CO2 from them before, but they seem ok for everything else. Thurston Discount Beverage will fill your t...
