Re: Brew stand

With a single level structure you would need 2 pumps to fly sparge. You could do fly with a two level system and 1 pump. I am sure there will be a healthy conversation about whether the extra cost to be able to do fly is worth it as many people have lots of success with batch, fly, and even "no...

Re-carbonation

I recently discovered that two batches of strong beer I bottle conditioned and aged for 3 months have insufficient carbonation. These were my first two batches using the new "malt tablets". I followed the dosing rate suggested with 7 for each 22 oz bottles. They were kept at about 72 F dur...

Re: Brew stand

Front.JPG I found the pics of my system. I agree all the advice give on this topic particularly to the emphasis on making and keeping your yeast happy thru good pitch rates, managing temp, and learning through experience what temp profile for each yeast delivers the best results. Hermes Recirc Manifold Design

I have a Hermes system that is capable of ramping better than 1 deg F per minute when pump running full open. However I have been told that I should recirc at approximately 1 qt/min to avoid channling. At that slower speed it is difficult to ramp and one side of mash tun seems to heat faster than th...

Re: Keg cutting

Getting someone to cut it is overkill. If you have access to a hand held 4" grinder you can do this yourself. Release all the pressure from the keg using a screwdriver in the top valve. Mark a circle for the hole you want. Then fire up the grinder with a cutting blade (thin). slowly move around...
