NHC Regional: Shipping to Non-Dallas Site
SO, I guess nobody cares about judges not being able to judge because they entered the category in our region. If our local judges send their entries to our region, we may not be able to get the judging done the first weekend.

I'll also be happy to help. I've got some product that can be used for judging.

Re: NHC 2011 Entry Rules
Judges, at the last meeting I suggested local judges send our entries to a different judging location. Why? So local judges would not be precluded from judging any categories here. What do you say? Saratoga Springs, NY Indianapolis, IN Nashville, TN Madison, WI Fort Worth, TX Denver, CO Seattle, WA ...

Re: Pumpkin Ale
Brock of St Arnold's said they used canned pumpkin for their Divine 9. The spices are evident in the beer. I forget whether they added it to the boil or mash. I've made a couple Pumpkin Cream Ales, one of which took a third place in the Bluebonnet. They were all-grain and I baked, then liquefied (us...

Re: A Call for Known Bad Beer recipes.
I took the survey. Shouldn't maltiness and hoppiness be separated? Hoppiness can also be further broken down to aroma, flavor, and bitterness.

Re: 2/12 Brewday - Keggle Help
Really, I used a dremmel to cut the top off a 5 gallon cornelius keg. It was like waiting for the icy roads to melt last week. Yes, a 4.5 inch angle grinder will do the job in minutes. Get a lid and mark your diameter. I've see others use a Sawzall also. Remember to cut out less than the marking for...

Re: 2/12 Brewday - Keggle Help
Dremmel - NO! You'll be grinding for days. Use a 4 inch grinder. It will only take minutes. I think Orlando has some guidance on this. Don't think a weldless fitting is the way to go. Get it welded.

Re: Schwartzbier questions
My blue ribbon winning Schwarzbiers - yes plural - were single infusion mashed. The base malt was dark Munich. The specialty malt was Carafa Spec 1. It used Pilsner malt also, about half as much as the Munich. No caramel malt was used. The mash temp is 152. The key is balance. Don't overdo the Caraf...

Search for "Wrap-On Pipe Heating Cables - 3' 120v heat tape dark green w/thermosta". Do you think that will work?

Re: Shiner Smokehaus
I can't say I've had Lone Star, but I'd guess it would be better than Schlitz and not as good as PBR, both of which I drink. I really like Miller Lite and Miller High Life lite also. Go figure! They're great after a 2+ hour bicycle ride in the summer heat, or after mowing the lawn. Shiner does have ...

Re: Gravity not low enough?
You should look into the other threads. There is information on pitching rates. There are web sites with calculators that will help you calculate them. The big vials and big smack packs contain about 100,000,000,000 yeast cells at packaging. A dry yeast packet contains less. Age reduces the amount o...

Re: A Call for Known Bad Beer recipes.
Funny request. Who'd admit having a "bad recipe?" :P Seriously, consider beer styles. A 10 out of 10 Helles Bock is a bad Traditional Bock, an even worse Octoberfest, a really bad Pilsner, and a terrible Barleywine. I think I just increased the difficulty of this project by orders of magni...

Down to 1 2C and 1 2C left. We should get together and judge them, before I get too thirsty.
