Re: Annual Home Brew Riot Festival in Bishop Arts District

Wish I knew about this earlier. Thanks for the post.

Wouldn't it be:
Sie können nicht den ganzen Tag trinken, wenn Sie nicht im Morgen beginnen (starten).

Re: grain questions

Has anyone tried to convert a pasta machine into a grain mill? The rollers are stainless and adjustable to six settings but are only about 6" long. Worth a try do you think, or would it take too long to crush? It's not cost effective, but I have one laying around that is rarely used for its int...

Re: May CoC question

This seems like an odd competition to me since it's pretty darn hard to tell the difference between an extract beer and all-grain. All I brew is extract, so I'll throw one in the ring, but it still seems weird.

Re: LAGER FERMENTATION

Hey thanks, this is great.

I pitched 2 rehydrated packets which seems about 1/2-2/3 what I should have. We'll see how well it attenuates and if I pick up esters. I did see fermentation start in 18 hours.

Re: LAGER FERMENTATION

Everyone seems to use Wyeast and WL for lager strains. Has anyone used Saflager 34/70? 52 degrees is the recommended ferment temp but are there any quirks I should know about this dried yeast? I'm just making an American lager with an OG 1.042. Nothing fancy.

Is a subcategory description of mild, northern, or southern required for COC?

Re: Corked bottles

Thanks. I primed with 1 cup of corn sugar and fresh yeast to up the carbonation. Is there a handy rule of thumb for sugar volume to beer volume yielding volumes of CO2? I've just been going by the standard 3/4 cup sugar or 1 1/4 cup DME per 5 gal for normal carbonation levels (2.5-3).

Re: Pre-Bluebonnet Evaluation Social

This would be the ideal beer to bring to this social if you even have one extra bottle. Christmas beers can range from amber to stout and everywhere in between. I don't have enough competition experience to be really helpful here, but I wouldn't be willy-nilly about what base style you put down. Be ...

Re: BrewDog Brewery in Scotland

Hmmm, according to Texas law, apparently it is illegal to freeze distill... Title 4 § 109.21.(b) The possession of wine, ale, malt liquor, or beer produced under this section is not an offense if the person making it complies with all provisions of this section and the wine, ale, malt liquor, or bee...

Re: Corked bottles

Thanks all. I used the manufactured corks so I'll stand them up. Any hints as to when I should see the top mushroom out completely? At 2 weeks it looks pretty close to the way it did right out of the champagne corker. A couple have pushed out 1 mm (but maintained shape) so I know it's carbonating in...

Re: Pre-Bluebonnet Evaluation Social

I love this. I never know what the heck is coming out of my brew kettle when I try for a style. Count me in and this will be my first brewday.

Corked bottles

Lay down or stand up to carbonate?

Lay down or stand up to age?

There seem to be both views floating out there.
