Re: controlling temp during fermentation
I agree that within the fermentation that the temperature difference is negligable between the center and the outside (I have done some testing myself). However.... The fermentation chamber that I use is the large beverage cooler type with fans that circulate the air inside the cooler accross the ev...

Re: Welding services needed
I can do Stainless TIG welding for Keggles. I usually charge more if there are already holes in the Keggle that arent' the right size or to fix a bad welding job. In this case it's more diffucult for me to guarantee a good weld. I am also the first to admit that TIG welding is much more expensive th...

Re: Brewday 4/30/11- Who's brewing?
We had a great turnout and great weather, there were several people that hadn't previously been to a brew day and another that made his first batch ever. Thanks to everyone who helped with my mash experiment on the two Pilsner's. If you left before I revealed the winner it was the single infusion Ma...

Re: Brew stand
Bart, I have a Miller Econotig. Retail it runs about $1600.I bought it for it's smaller size and because it has AC capability for welding aluminum. In hindsight I wish I would have spent a little more and went with the Miller Syncrowave. The Econotig is good for general purpose welding but doesn't h...

The link doesn't appear to be working yet but I was wondering if there were going to be any volunteer opportunities.

Nice rig Bart! I am partial to stainless but I really like the powder coating. I would recommend this for anyone that doesn't want to hassle with Tig welding stainless.

Dave,
Welding stainless to mild steel is not an issue. I have done it several times.

Re: Brew stand
I think you definitely make angle work but I agree with Bill, tubing is much stronger. Then theres also the aesthetic factor, tubing looks better too. I have some experience welding and between me and Wayne could probably help you out with that.

Re: Oak chips/cubes
I have done this several times with my Imperial Stout. I use chips and stuff them in a ziploc bag with enough burboun to just cover the chips. Then let them soak for a week. I then toss the chips and buroboun directly into the secondary or in some cases I use a stainless spice ball and throw it in t...

Re: GABF
Sure would like to. It's been several years since I have gone. They usually have volunteer opportunities which are pretty fun. You get to pour beer for four hours and drink for free. If you get tired of pouring the same beer you just trade places with someone at another booth. The last time we went ...

Re: grain questions
As Sage mentioned a sealed 5 gallon bucket works fine for keeping the bugs and the moisture out. I have never heard of anyone using a rolling pin. Seems like it would be difficult to get a consistent crush from batch to batch. I had an old electric flour mill lying around that I am using. It actuall...
