Re: 2014 Celtic Brew Off

They awards are based on BJCP category. You can enter 1 per subcategory, and 2 per category, up to 12 per brewer. So, if you have a ordinary bitter and an ESB, enter them both. You'll get 2 shots at placing, and you might place with both.

Re: Bottle Conditioning in Belgian 750's

You may have heard me stating that Brewery Ommegang bottle conditions at 90 degrees Fahrenheit. I've since looked at their web site, and it says 75 degrees. I cannot recall where I got that information, but it seems untrue or outdated. Regardless, fresh yeast should help. You do need to treat it wel...

Re: 2012 Limbo Challenge Discussion

Please remember that guidelines are just that. They are a *guide*. Note also that the spirit of the competition is session beers. Per the competition edited guidelines, it is suggested that the judges perception will be the guide as to whether the beer is considered over the top. The beer is not dis...

Re: BIG50 Batch #4

If I had my druthers, I'd do a Negro Modelo clone. Second would be Helles. Third would be Marzen. I would not want to use any extract on them. If extract is used (90 pounds?), I'd suggest American Barleywine, Wee Heavy, or Imperial Russian Stout, and all at the top end of the range. Just my 2pw. EDI...

BIG50 Batch #4

Okay, I posted to #3 and nobody sniffed the thread. I asked if we could do an Oktoberfest that we could have for the NTHBA Annual Oktoberfest Party. We could have a taste off, and a peoples choice award. Just asking. Is this thing turned on, or is it just me? Funny, it sounds like AACHTOBERFEST!

Re: Calling Don Trotter....come in Don Trotter

I'll either be at the hotel or out with the truck. Can't check in until afternoon, and maybe not until 3 or so. Truck rolling in the AM, not sure what time it will be back, or if I can even fit into the cab. Already 2 bodies. See you there.

Re: Academy fry cart?

The top part that sets inside has grooves all around to let the air/propane mixture flow and then it burns above it. I used an angle grinder to widen/smooth each groove. The burner heats up the water even faster now. Don't ask me to rate the BTU increase, as I don't know how. It will bring water to ...

I've been using one since 2001. I ported the burners and they work even better. It works great.

Now I have two real reasons to visit Pittsburgh. The Penn Brewery, and this place.
