Re: BIG50 Batch #3

Just bottled mine today. Very light tasting - a bit malty with little to no hoppiness. Definitely much lighter than what I normally drink!

FG was a 1.010. Final info posted here: http://hopville.com/recipe/1173074/scot ... heavy-70--

Re: BIG50 Batch #3

Is the aforementioned Hopville recipe the final grain bill? Could you let me know when your Hopville recipe and process notes are complete? I will connect to that from my Hopville account.

On a related note, Yeast is pitched (1728) and fermentation has started in earnest.

Re: BIG50 Batch #3

I will be there in the morning but I have to duck out around noon for a service opportunity with a local high school. Any chance I can help out in the morning and leave a 5 gallon bucket for later pick up? If so, I would be in for 5 gallons. If not, I will pass this time around.

Thanks!

Wort Chiller

I am in the midst of making a wort chiller. I have everything dry-fitted and I am preparing to solder the joints. Is anyone a solder expert? I tried one joint and I wasn't happy with the results. In any case, if someone can guide me through it or help me out, I would be greatly appreciative (a few b...

Re: Three tier or three vessel brewing

Great feedback, Leroy. Is anyone available to help me with an all grain brew in the next month or two? I am getting my setup squared away and will be ready to try it on a weekend sometime.

Re: Three tier or three vessel brewing

Do you use the Academy fry cart for your setup? Maybe I am recalling incorrectly from a prior post. Is that a 2-tier system? Any pumps involved? I am probably going to brew my first all-grain sometime in the next month... maybe on February 18 at the brewday (I may not be able to do it on Feb 18 sinc...

Three tier or three vessel brewing

Just jumping into all-grain brewing (before my first partial extract is done fermenting). I picked up a couple keggles, a plastic cooler based lauter tun and a few fermentation vessels. In a 3-tier setup, I have seen two different approaches, (1) a keggle HLT, plastic cooler lauter tun and a final k...

Anyone use Hopville for tracking recipes?

Does anyone use Hopville for keeping track of recipes? http://hopville.com/

I just checked it out. Seems like some basic calculation functionality. Very easy to use interface. I like that it is web-based so I can access from anywhere.

Re: BIG50 Batch #3

I was looking forward to meeting you in person, Bill. Great idea on the big batch. I would definitely be up for helping brew a batch and fermenting 5 gallons at home.

Thanks!

Re: January 21st Brew Day

Rob,

Great to meet you as well. I had a great time and everyone was so helpful. I learned a ton and it was great to get home, pitch the yeast and see those yeast begin making the beer.

I look forward to many more brew days.

Thanks!

Re: Robust Porter Recipe Help

Excellent. Thanks for the explanation. I was more curious about the % splits for the grains/malts discussed in this thread. Are those by volume, weight or something else?

Quick question from a newbie: Is the % by volume, weight, fermentable content or something else?

Thanks for bearing with my inexperienced questions.

Re: January 21st Brew Day

Quick question on yeasts and hops... I am brewing with the aforementioned Brewer's Best kit for an IPA. Would you all recommend me picking up a liquid yeast? Also, should I pick up different hops? It includes a dry yeast and a couple packages of hop pellets - one is Cascade and I can't remember the ...
