Glad to hear this worked out well. Sure beats running the risk of scorching (or splattering).

Oct 11th Brewday -Big Rig Shares -Yeast Sign Up

. In the newsletter I chatted about brewing a Blonde ale using the big brewing system from BargainFittings.com . Use this forum to sign up (or email me) to take a 5 gallon share. The plan is simple. On October 11th brew a big batch of wort and split it into 5 gallon shares. Members take home wort to...

Jeff, Thanks for hosting the O-Fest Party. My peeps and I had a great time. I dig the man cave and enjoyed sharing stories. Good job on the wines I am remembering a mead and a very dry red as my favorites.

Great to know the hopping went well. Really can't go wrong with Mosaic and Citra. Did you keep the gravity at 1.065 SG? I'd like to sample this beer at the party.

Re: Oktoberfest Party

I would like to know what other home brews will be in attendance. I have a dark oktoberfest in bottles and of course some sour kegs. However I missed the window to brew and fest beer for the party. Looking forward to the event this weekend.

Re: Buy Lab supplies locally?

Don,

DME with Agar Agar in wide mouth jelly jars (or White Lab vials) sterilized in a pressure cooker works well.

Amazon Prime shipping is the best source for scientific labware.

Re: Barrel Aging 101

. Chris, great to see this project in pictorial view. The process listed has yielded greats results. Its okay. I would caution against starsan with wood and go with a fill with metabisulfite & wash of metabisulfite mixed with acid. I believe the starsan label cautions about contact with wood. Go...

Re: Wheat IPA, Late Hopping Strategy

. Mosaic, Nelson, and Ace hops are delicious. I am starting to see more breweries use them as single hops. I still think hop blending is the beauty of IPAs. I agree the session IPA style in particular can be hit and miss. My recent favorite is Easy Jack by Firestone. Check out the malts in play (Pal...

Re: Wheat IPA, Late Hopping Strategy

. Bill this beer sounds tasty. I'd like to sample what you come up with. I like the idea of wheat and American hops. Three Floyds Gumballhead is pretty tasty stuff (35 IBUS 5.6% with Amarillo hops). Hop bursting with loads of hops 20min through flame out seems to work well. Then a follow up with dry...

SOUR POWER! I am in fact ecstatic. I have some catching up to do in clean beer. Been brewing session ales in an effort to spot cross contamination.

I tried that beer at the bottle shop. It's okay. I think full sail's is better. That being said I like to keep my own taps full

Re: continuing a conversation I started with Jimmy

. Well said sir! I like the spirit of competition all in fun but still serious bragging rights. I split my entries when entering comps. As a way to keep it fun half are experimental for feedback the others I feel have a chance. This has yielded some fun comments. All judges should be held accountabl...
