Re: Congratulations 2012 Bluebonnet Winners

I had to work also. Congrats to the "smoke man" nano brew. Any idea where to find the results?

Re: Gravity not low enough?

ABV,
Try swirling your carboy or fermenter. Your fermenter may have gotten cold causing your yeast to drop out and settle to the bottom. If you shake it up and get it warmer your yeast should fire up again and finish out. Just and idea.

Re: Hermes Recirc Manifold Design

Bill,
Your right, full open on a pump during recirc will compact the mash and render it stuck. Rice hulls and a happy medium on the flow rate help. Flaked wheat without rice hulls will ruin your day. PITA for sure.

Re: New Guy

ABV, I live in Denton. Nobody lives near us up here. I just brewed an Imperial IPA yesterday. Its fermenting away as we speak. I second all the above suggestions. If you want to see a system/stuff. Drop me an email. bvaskew@mac.com I live in Lakeview Ranch east of town. Like someone suggested, try a...

Re: Compressor recharge?

On second thought, winter is approaching quickly. The cold weather has me thinking a winter fermentation chamber. I have some reptile warming pads plus some controllers Im excited to try out this year. This spring may be the departure time for my dead keezer.

Re: Compressor recharge?

Wayne,
Thanks. After building a single tier, you would think charging a compressor would be cake. I'm gonna research this to see how easy it could be. Maybe some gauges, freon, etc . I'm on a mission now.

Re: Hermes Recirc Manifold Design

I second what Wayne said. I used a wort aerator device which caused the wort to shower down on the grainbed. It worked like a champ for 5 gallon batches but when I went to 10 gallon batches the grainbed was tooo tall and my showerhead was nearly out the roof of my keggle. I have changed to just a si...

Compressor recharge?

The other day my converted chest freezer stopped cooling. The compressor hums but does not maintain temp. The system is a closed one, meaning there are no charging fittings just soldered ends. Anyone know of anyone that can charge it or if its even worth going that route? I'm close to just taking my...

Re: Brew stand

Rob, They are simple banjo burners, 10.5 inches. I had seen Damons rig on the net and looked into it. Did some searching on the net. Did a price search and bought 3 for 40 bucks each. Seems that is the going rate or at least a place to start. bayou burner for propane is what your looking for. There ...

Re: Brew stand

Powder coating is a problem if you don't know how heat works. I was interested if powder coating burnt or not, it burns. But I found a simple fix. You have to build an insert which slides into the burner opening. The pic I posted is prior to my building an insert. After the insert build my frame is ...
